Is Email Killing the Post Office?

Is Email Killing the Post Office?  The rise of mobile, and smartphones in particular, must also play a role, as it caters to increased use in email and social media, not to mention text messaging, and even….the phone call!

Is email killing the post office? It’s not a new question. In fact, it’s been around nearly as long as the mainstream use of email itself, but it’s also not gone away, and the USPS has seen better days. I’m not normally one to buy too much into the typical x is killing y kind of hype, but the Postal Service is clearly severely injured.

BusinessWeek.com has put out a lengthy report looking at the decline of the USPS and its contributing factors. While the seven-page pice just briefly touches upon the subject of email, comparing the performance of the USPS to that of FedEx, UPS, and DHL, as well as counterparts in other countries, there’s no question that email and online communication in general have done their fair share of damage.

People have been using email for years now, and despite some predicting the death of email (at the hands of social media), it’s clear that it’s hear to stay for quite some time. Even if email were to die, it wouldn’t do much to help the postal service.

As we’ve seen just in the past week alone, email is an incredibly important part of business for companies like Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Twitter. Even Facebook has its own email now, and social networks all still rely on email to keep users engaged – that goes for the professionals too (ie: the newly public LinkedIn).

In a recent study, 45% said that their use of email at work will most likely increase in the next five years. 51% said that it would likely stay the same. Only 4% thought it would decrease. At home, 36% of those surveyed thought their email use will increase, 55% said it will stand pat and 6% said it will likely decrease.

The majority of important online communication still takes place through email, whether that be B2B or B2C. C2C online communication may be trending more toward social media, but again, email still plays a role here, in terms of notifications, and there is still plenty of C2C communication through email. Even from heavy users of social media. Not everyone is on the same social network. That even goes for Facebook. Email is universal. You pretty much need an email address to have any kind of account online.

The rise of mobile, and smartphones in particular, must also play a role, as it caters to increased use in email and social media, not to mention text messaging, and even….the phone call! The point is, communication is always as close as your pocket. It’s a lot easier and cheaper (at least on an individual interaction basis) than writing letters. And it’s in real time.

“With the rise of e-mail and the decline of letters, mail volume is falling at a staggering rate, and the postal service’s survival plan isn’t reassuring,” Devin Leonard says in the Bloomberg BusinessWeek report, noting that the USPS is the country’s second-largest civilian employer after Walmart (with more post offices than the retail outlets of Walmart, Starbucks and McDonald’s combined). Last year its revenues were $67 billion, with even greater expenses, he says.

According to the report, first-class mail, which the USPS gets the majority of its money from, has been steadily declining, and in 2005 fell below junk mail for the first time. Total mail volume has decreased 20% just from 2006 to 2010. The USPS hasn’t been able to cover its annual budget in three years.

Well, there’s still packages right? Sure, but there’s also stiff competition from companies like FedEx, UPS, and DHL, along with an increase in digital goods replacing physical goods. Think movies, music, and books. Amazon, the largest retailer on the web, announced last week that Kindle books are outselling print books. Never mind that there are a bunch of free ones too.

Plus, everybody’s going paperless these days. The Director of Physical Infrastructure at the U.S. Government Accountability Office is quoted as saying, “What happens when Bank of America or Citigroup says you are going to have to pay to get your statement on paper? That’s going to change a lot of behavior. It’s going to affect the postal service. That’s how they make most of their money.”

The Bloomberg BusinessWeek report includes some interesting ideas on how the Postal Service could get back on track, at least to some extent, but the outlook is looking pretty bleak. You have to wonder what this will mean for the future of digital communication like email.

How To Testing Our Email Security

I believe all the tests are legitimate and above board. When requesting the test, you are given the option of subscribing to the GIF Newsletter, but I have never received unsolicited email from the company

Check/Test the security of your email client. The GFI Email Security Testing Zone is a place where you can do just that. Enter your email address and the service will perform a vulnerability check on your email system. A series of emails will be sent to you that are designed to test the security of your system and inform you about any potential problems.

When you enter your email address to perform the tests, you will first receive an email that asks for confirmation. Once you confirm your request, a series of test emails will be sent. Each email will outline the results of the test. Naturally, none of the test emails contain any harmful code or viruses. The emails are designed to fool your security software into detecting a potential threat.

Although the company offering the tests is in the business of selling security software, I believe all the tests are legitimate and above board. When requesting the test, you are given the option of subscribing to the GIF Newsletter, but I have never received unsolicited email from the company.

A lot of good mail and a little bit of spam makes it to your Yahoo Mail inbox; a whole lot of good mail and some really good mail — messages from your dearest contacts.

Tips - How to Block a Sender in Yahoo Mail

Yahoo! Mail can block all mail from up to 500 email addresses. All mail from these senders will be automatically deleted before you see it.

Do not let the high number of potential addresses to block lure you into fighting spam with this, though. Spammers can use a fresh address (or domain) for just about every message.

Use the list of blocked senders for individual senders whose messages you don't want to receive but can't stop easily. Instead of deleting every incoming mail manually, you can have Yahoo! Mail do the job.

Block a Sender in Yahoo! Mail

To have Yahoo! Mail delete all mail from a particular address automatically:
  • Select Options | Mail Options... in Yahoo! Mail.
  • Go to the Spam category.
  • Type the unwanted email address under Add a blocked address:.
  • Click Add.
  • Now click Save Changes.

Block a Sender in Yahoo! Mail Classic

To add an email address to the list of blocked senders in Yahoo! Mail Classic:
  • Follow the Mail Options link in the top navigation bar.
  • Select Block Addresses, which you can find under Management.
  • Enter the email address you want to be blocked under Add Block.
  • Select Add Block.
  • Select Yes to set the block.

How to Review Yahoo Mail Spam Folder Periodically

Yahoo! Mail includes the ability to automatically filter spam to the Bulk Mail folder. This works fairly well and keeps your Yahoo! Mail Inbox practically spam-free.

But the filters are not perfect, and so a desired message may end up in the Bulk Mail folder instead of the Inbox.

Review Your Yahoo! Mail "Spam" Folder Periodically

That's why you should
  • go to the Spam (or Bulk in Yahoo! Mail Classic) folder in Yahoo! Mail once in a while to see whether any legit mail has been hiding there.
Keep in mind that messages in the Spam folder will be deleted automatically after 30 days, so be sure to visit it at least that often.

In addition to reviewing the contents of the Spam folder yourself, you can mark erroneously filtered messages as not junk:
  • Open the message or check it in the message list.
  • Click Not Spam.

Signed Out Settings on My Yahoo!

My Yahoo! will be making a change to the amount of time we save changes that a signed out user makes to a My Yahoo! page from two months to twenty four hours. We will continue to allow you to use My Yahoo! to its fullest extent whether you are signed in or out of your Yahoo! account but if you wish us to remember all of the customization choices you make on any device or computer and across Yahoo!, then you must sign in to your Yahoo! account to save those choices.

Every time you visit My Yahoo! when you are signed in to your Yahoo! account, we display all of your added content & pages, themes and personal customizations you’ve done. Regardless of which computer or device you use to access My Yahoo!, as long as you are signed in to Yahoo!, we’re going to display your personal My Yahoo! pages and your customizations.

For those of you that utilize My Yahoo! when you are not signed in to your Yahoo! account, you have likely experienced a time when some of the applications you’ve added or customizations you’ve done have “disappeared”. This is because signed out personalization choices you make are tied to the browser you are using to view My Yahoo! and saved in “browser cookies”. If these cookies are deleted, either by choice or accident, you lose the personalization. Also, if you do not access My Yahoo! for an extended period of time, those browser cookies eventually expire.

In addition, since signed out personalization is tied just to the computer or device you are using at the time and not saved to your Yahoo! account, you will not be able to access these personalization choices when accessing My Yahoo! from another computer or device.

In short, if you wish to save customizations you make on My Yahoo! for longer than 24 hours and access them from any device or computer, sign in to save your settings.

Cara Mengetahui IP Address Pengirim Yahoo Mail

ym invisible detector, ym detector, yahoo invisible detector
Oke, langsung saya terapkan caranya...

The First kita menuju ke rival Google yaitu YAHOO.

Temukanlah kata-kata Full Headers and then tinggal di-KLIK!

Saya punya emailnya Hotmail, trus gimana dong?

Saya paling suka pakai email Gmail tu? Gimana dong?

Two New Directors Elected At Yahoo

Patti Hart, the CEO of International Game Technology, and Brad Smith, the president and CEO of Intuit, now have ties to Yahoo, too.  Yahoo's shareholders effectively welcomed these individuals to the company by electing them to its board of directors.

Hart and Smith are replacing John Chapple and Ronald Burkle, who didn't seek reelection.  And since Chapple came aboard as part of Carl Icahn's attempt to take over Yahoo, this development should represent something of a return to normality.

Roy Bostock, the chairman of Yahoo's board of directors, was certainly quick to applaud the move and welcome the new members.  "Both Brad and Patti are tremendous additions to the Yahoo! Board of Directors and bring a wealth of expertise," he said in a statement.

Bostock then continued, "We look forward to leveraging Brad's extensive experience with consumer products and the distribution of large scale software solutions over the Internet, and Patti's deep leadership experience in Internet and technology companies as well as her public company board work."

Interestingly, no specific mention was made of the Microsoft deal, which is the biggest thing on Yahoo's plate.  But again, it's unlikely that anyone would try to alter or derail the arrangement.  The omission was probably more of an attempt to focus on Yahoo's strengths as an independent company.

Yahoo's stock is down 1.08 percent so far this morning, by the way, but Google, Microsoft, the Dow, and the Nasdaq are all in the red, as well.

Yahoo Redirects Directory Pages

Yahoo Redirects Directory Pages to Search Pages

Yahoo is reportedly redirecting directory pages to web search pages. Matt McGee at Search Engine Land received a tip from Sean Carlos about it, and confirmed it with Yahoo

Apparently since as early as December, Yahoo has been doing this in four countries: France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

Yahoo told McGee, "As part of Yahoo!’s ongoing effort to build products and services that deliver the best possible experiences for consumers, we are increasing investment in some areas while scaling back in others."

While the move has gone largely unnoticed all year, as Matt points out, it is certainly no secret that Yahoo is "scaling back" in some areas. Yahoo famously put an end to the once huge Geocities a while back, not to mention various other products. Of course, they're handing search over to Microsoft this year as well (for a while at least).

In Yahoo's note to McGee, it said the local versions of Yahoo Search are a "superior experience" to the directory experience, but the company said it has no plans to close the U.S. version. Does that mean the U.S.
