Yahoo! Messenger Firewall Changes

Yahoo official Messenger blog (ymessengerblog.com) that unspecified changes will be made to the way firewalled users will use Messenger. The article mentions that only users that are using version 8.x and signed in from behind a firewall will be affected. An official message will be sent by Yahoo! urging users to upgrade to the latest 9.x version of the software.

From a programming standpoint this will most likely only affect Messenger operations that require a peer to peer (p2p) connection such as file sharing. When performing a peer to peer operation, Messenger makes a discussion (largely based on the firewall settings but not always) to either create a true peer to peer connection or to use the Yahoo! servers to create a pseudo peer to peer connection. 

 

The pseudo p2p connection uses a Yahoo! server as a proxy to create the connection because one of the clients does not have to ability to accept unsolicited connections. I do not know why this is only affecting 8.x users because the 9.x series has the same capability to offer proxy connections. Perhaps this is a drive to get users to switch to the latest version but at any rate, users of 8.x software should still be able to use that version as long as you don’t need to use the pseudo p2p connection.

Akan ada tulisan REPLY di sebelahnya ada tanda panah yang menghadap ke bawah. KLIK tanda itu lalu segera tunjuk ke kata SHOW ORIGINAL. The last akan terlihat IP address-nya dan informasi tentang dirinya yang lebih lengkap.

Saya hanya menggunakan layanan ini untuk mengetahui apakah orang tersebut (si pengirim email) adalah orang yang bisa dipercaya atau tidak. Karena entah tidak tahu kenapa, terkadang ada saja email yang masuk dari orang yang tak dikenal. Tapi bagi yang ingin mencoba, silahkan.

Last December, Yahoo announced that it would be rolling out a deep integration of its products with Facebook Connect, essentially outsourcing all things social to the world’s most popular social network. Today marks one of the initial demonstrations of this partnership, with Yahoo Contacts now connected to Facebook. 

 

Now Yahoo allows you to add your Facebook friends’ email addresses to your Yahoo Contacts via Facebook Connect. In the Import Contact landing page of your Yahoo account, you’ll be able to select Facebook (importing from Gmail and Hotmail already exists). Once you authorize the connection with your Facebook credentials, your friends’ email addresses from their Facebook profiles will be added to your Yahoo Contacts. Yahoo will scan the imports and delete any duplicates.


Yahoo’s move with Facebook shows that the company has given up on leveraging the existing social connections among Yahoo email, address book and messenger users, and thus, weakens its ability to monetize this social graph. And Yahoo also just added Twitter integration to its products as well. While Google’s Buzz may have its problems, at least Google is making an effort to try to develop technologies that use its communications products to build a social graph. Perhaps Yahoo CEO shouldn’t bite the hand that feeds her.

Very useful if someone dosen’t respond to your chats[:P]. I found this exploit when I was chatting with one of my friend, and I had entered a message which I later realized, was a code in Yahoo Messenger.

Add someone to your Yahoo Messenger list without their permission

Now the user you just added, will probably deny the request to add them, however you never get that denial because you have deleted the account to which the ADD came from. The user will remain on your friends list for the main account name.

Ok, for those who have been on yahoo as long as I have, this is the way we use to Add someone to our friends list without them knowing.

1) Pick an account that you want to Add the person to;

2) Create an alias account under that main ID;

3) Sign into messenger with the Alias you just made;

4) Go back into the account information, and click the delete button to delete the Alias ID However do not confirm it yet;

5) Add the user to your friends list in messenger under that new alias account;

6) After to have added the user, Immediately go and hit the confirm button to delete the alias profile;

7) Now the user you just added, will probably deny the request to add them, however you never get that denial because you have deleted the account to which the ADD came from.

The user will remain on your friends list for the main account name.

But if only you have that faith on your network security. You can change it by going to Yahoo Messenger main box -> Preferences -> Connection

8. Use Word Filter

You can also use your word Filter in Yahoo messenger. It just discards all the obscene or threatening words by intelligent filtering system if you choose Strong option. But be aware, there may be some times when your own friend can get banned while cursing your jokingly. Word filter is another good option to be within your network and not let some specifically targeted spammers to arrive. It increases security too. You can change it by going to Yahoo Messenger main box -> Preferences -> Chat.

9. Be sure to Delete Your Profile after Chatting from a Public computer

Most of the users don't know about it. Whenever you sign in to yahoo messenger, yahoo makes a profile of yours in the directory Yahoo -> Messenger -> Profiles by the name of your yahoo id. There is an option by default at Yahoo messenger that messages will be saved as long as you are signed in to your account for that session. A good hacker can have access to that file and decrypt it to learn your private conversations.

What you must do if you are sharing a public computer to chat from, is, you can change it by going to Yahoo Messenger main box -> Preferences -> Archive. Change it to No, do not save any of my messages and you are done. Oh don't forget to delete your profile from Profiles inside Yahoo folder after you sign out.

10. Apply Your Common sense and Use a good Antivirus and anti spyware software

Applying your common sense is the least you can do to prevent your account from being hacked. A good anti-virus and anti-spyware always warns you about dangers that you may have overlooked. So its better to have them as well. If you implement the above 9 tips, you won't need to worry much I gues until you personally hand over your information to the person willing to crack your computer down.

Tattoo only appear when we enter to chat room and type a message in there. Tattoo is a unique character. How to Make a Tattoo

The tattoo usually available in some of unofficial chat clients, but not all unofficial chat clients support and have a tattoo. Especially, if you use official yahoo messenger, you will not find this service. Yazak, YahElite, Y!mLite, Yam, Jam, and some of unofficial chat clients have this tattoo service. I will guarantee if you saw a nickname that has a tattoo, its mean that username use unofficial chat client.

After you already know an unofficial chat client produces a tattoo, the next step (if you want to make or use a tattoo) is install one of kind of unofficial chat clients. I will give you an example to use a tattoo via YahElite chat client.

YahElite Tattoo

Start your YahElite chat client. Then login to yahoo. When you have being connected and have being joined a room, click a menu task bar. Go to toolKit menu and click Attribute, click ChatScreenAppearance. From here, you will see a new window appear and the window show you many options. Under “Your text is shown” button, check “My Tattoo”. The default tattoo in YahElite is a blue star. You can change this tattoo by change the character of font. Blue star is under “Wingdings 12”. Just click the button that has a text “Wingdings 12” and you can pick a lot of symbols or characters supported by Wingdings 12”. You can have more symbols by change to other font (available: custom, marlett, symbol, Webdings, Wingdings, Wingding 2, and Wingding 3). You can also change the color of your tattoo by click a button color pallet (right of “Your text is shown” button).

Try to use your tattoo by typing a message in chat room. If you want to convinced your tattoo working, login your another username or ID via official yahoo messenger. Thus, joined your username to the same chat room that you been login before. Watch your tattoo working or not.
